just for you spring card | tutorial

Who’s ready for spring? I know I am! Today’s tutorial features some pretty spring colors from The Sweetest Thing collection by My Minds Eye, the Poinsettia Pop `n Cuts die insert by Karen Burniston and the Flower Layers with Heart Petals by Eileen Hull.

Making the card

Start by cutting your PNC Poinsettia insert. Add your insert to the base tray, line up the tick marks, add cardstock, and run through your Big Shot machine.

The Poinsettia Pop `n Cut insert doesn’t have to be just for Christmas and holiday cards. It works as a pretty flower too! :-)

Emboss both sides of your PNC insert using the Dots from the Christmas Words & Dots Textured Impressions set.

When you cut a Pop `n Cut, spaces are created in the card base. Cut two pieces of paper large enough to cover the two open holes and glue down. Make sure the side you want showing comes through on the inside of the card.

Note: At this point I have not attached the two poinsettia flowers together, I just held them together to take the above photo. I will attach them in a later step, after I have finished assembling the front. If you wanted to attach them right now you absolutely can. It’s just my personal preference to wait until I’m ready to work on the inside.

Next cut pieces of patterned paper to fit the front and back of your card.

For the front I made it slightly smaller so there would be a border and then rounded each bottom corner to match the PNC. Technically I didn’t need to add a back piece since there was already a piece there from when I covered the poinsettia hole but I wanted to make it a bit prettier, so added one.

Use the Bigz Flower Layers with Heart Petals die to create the flowers you’ll need for the front and inside of your card. For the front, you will need three small flowers. For the inside, you will need one large, two medium, and 2 small (my second small one was obviously protesting being in the photo) flowers.

Stamp your sentiment on the left side of a piece of cardstock that is 1” by approximately 4” and adhere to the front of your card. Create a label die using the Celebrate Sizzlits set and adhere to the right side of your cardstock strip. Assemble your flower by layering together and then adding a brad in the center hole. Cut one small scroll from the Crown, Medallion & Scrolls Sizzlit set. Assemble flower and small scroll as shown in example.

To give my flowers a bit more depth, I folded the petals up and then pinched the ends together. When assembling, I added a Glue Dot as close to the hole as I could so the flowers wouldn’t shift.

Assemble your flower for the inside of your card. Fold and pinch petals, layer, and secure together using a brad. I added a Glue Dot in between each layer of this flower also to avoid shifting.

Create two large scrolls from the Hello Sizzlits set as well as the word “hello.”

Use a Glue Dot or two to secure the top portion of your poinsettia flowers together. As you pull the petal ends together, the part of the petals that are attached to the PNC base will bend on their own. It’s super easy but if you’re unsure, please check out the package instructions.

Next secure the scrolls to the poinsettia. Make sure when you close the card that the scrolls stay inside the card. Add your layered flowered on top of the scrolls.

Finish off your card by adding the hello sentiment at the bottom.

Other: Yellow cardstock (Bazzill); brad.

And now I am definitely ready for spring! How about you?
