what’s the scoop? card

At the top of my to-do list today: make a video tutorial for Create Scrapbooks that is for Friday. I was all ready to go, hit record, and what do I get? A flashing battery! Don’t you love it when you have everything all planned out and then one tiny – yet very important thing – screws it up?! I was all ready in creative mode so I decided to put the battery charging time to good use and create a card. It looks good enough to eat right?

whats-the-scoop-tsol

I decided to pull out the embossing powder for the border… a last minute decision. I love the results but trying to get everything out and done quickly can result in a very big mess (and lots of white powder on my floor!).

Supplies: scream4icecream #21, cone2dish, and borders4me stamp sets (The Stamps of Life), blue cardstock (Bazzill), Whisper White cardstock (Stampin’ Up), Summer Days 6x6 Paper Pad (Echo Park Paper Co.), Sea Foam White embossing powder (Ranger), Whisper White pigment ink (Stampin’ Up), black dye ink (Hero Hues, Hero Arts), black pen (American Crafts).

Other stuff

I take the big kids for their driving test tomorrow. That means they’ll officially have their licenses (because I’m totally optimistic that they’ll pass!) and can drive with out me. Holy crap on a cracker Batman! That scares the crud out of me!!! They got so big, so fast. When they were little it was like they’d be small forever and now I’ll have a Junior and a Senior in high school. *sigh* Okay! Enough of that… or I’ll get all sappy and what not. Wish `em luck tomorrow!

Hope you’re having a great week!

congrats (enjoy your new Mac) card

congrats-mac-tsol

I made this card for Karen to celebrate the fact that she got a new Macsince her 10 month old HP failed (yet again!). I’ve never really been interested or even curious about a Mac before but after seeing hers, I’m definitely paying attention now. Enjoy Karen! You totally deserve it!

Supplies: Mac image from Apple (I found it on Google), Apple sticker (came with my iPod), kraft cardstock (Bazzill), speckled cream cardstock (unknown), Scallop Circle Pop-Up (Karen Burniston, Sizzix), Scallops (Tim Holtz, Sizzix), alpha stamps (abc4you and basic4abc, The Stamps of Life), Tickled Pink “Radiant” Paper (Fine and Dandy, My Mind’s Eye).

Have a great weekend everyone!

i love you card

i-love-you-tsol

I’ve got a quick and card share for today… my favorite kind! Some stamping, some punching and you’re done! The card measures 4-1/2” x 4-1/2” and there is a pop dot behind the heart (which is stamped) to make it stand out a bit more.

Supplies: kraft cardstock (Bazzill), circle punch (Stampin’ Up), scallop circle punch (Seal of Approval, Fiskars), love2hug stamp set (The Stamps of Life), ledger paper (Spiral Memo Notebook, Fancy Pants), blue and green patterned paper and blue cardstock (my scrap drawer), Real Red dye ink (Stampin’ Up), 1/2” round pop dot (Zap Dots, Helmar).

Other Stuff

Trying to keep up with everything in summer is kind of crazy and overwhelming all wrapped up in one! You know what that means… it means I might see some blog slacking in my future. Such as it goes right? We’ll see, I’m working on finding some balance… are you saying right now, “aren’t we all?” I am sure I am not alone. (Please tell me I am not alone or I might have to go sit in the corner in the fetal position and rock back and forth!)

Here’s to long days, hanging out, eating late, and the randomness that summer brings… and finding some balance!

have a sunny day! card

have-a-sunny-day-tsol

When I got this summer4fun stamp set I knew just what I wanted to do with it. Take the surfboard and combine it with the Zig Zag pop-up die to make it look like it was sitting in the sand. I got to use some of the new Echo Park papers I picked up at GASC too. I’m kind of a little too excited about this card! As Hannibal from the A-Team would say (I’m totally dating myself!), “I love it when a plan comes together.” :-)

Supplies: Summer Days – 6 x 6 Paper Pad (Echo Park), kraft cardstock (Bazzill), summer4fun stamp set (The Stamps of Life), Zig Zag Pop-Up Die (Sizzix), black pigment ink, yellow and blue ink (Stampin’ Up), black pen.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

celebrate with a cupcake card

celebrate-cupcake-sol

A cute card share for today. I really like how it turned out. I love the mix of papers (Echo Park just might be my new favorite!) and the little bit of texture on the cupcake top. I hope you like it too. :-)

Supplies: HappyBDay2you and Cake2Build stamp sets (The Stamps of Life), Top Note die* (Stampin’ Up, Sizzix), embossing folder (Dots & Flowers set, Sizzix), Whisper White cardstock (Stampin’ Up), patterned papers – Tree Tops, Flutter, and Rain Drops (A Walk in the Park, Echo Park).

*The Top Note die looks very similar to the Tim Holtz Ornamental die so if you don’t have access to a Stampin’ Up demonstrator, that’s a good alternative.

Happy Friday everyone!

Lawnscaping Challenge #11 | thanks card

thanks-racoon

I decided to make one more card for challenge #11 on the Lawnscaping challenge blog. I love clean and simple so I figured - what the heck - I’ll do one more!

Details: I used chalk to color in the raccoon, mushrooms, and dragon fly. I outlined the “thanks” sentiment in black to make it pop a bit more. For the trail from the dragon fly, I drew it in pencil first, went over it with the black making tick marks, then erased the pencil line. easy peasy!

Supplies: Thanks stamp and Critters in the Forest set (Lawn Fawn), cardstock (Stampin’ Up), black pen (American Crafts), black ink (Staz-On), chalks (Decorating Chalk Kit #3, Craf-T Products).

Occasionally time gets away from me and because of that, I’ve missed a few of the Lawnscaping Challenges so I decided I had to make some time to participate in the latest challenge (#11), it’s all about clean and simple. That’s right up my alley… how could I not?

just a note card

just-a-note-flags-sol

Happy Monday everyone! I’ve got a quick share for today using a cute stamp set called banners4all from The Stamps of Life. It comes with so many cute little sentiments that you can mix and match, the possibilities are endless!

Supplies: Banners4all stamp set (The Stamps of Life), inks (Stampin’ Up), cardstock (Stampin’ Up), die cut (Styled Labels, Tim Holtz; Sizzix), patterned paper (Ad Lib Vertigo, Bo Bunny), black pen.

Other Stuff

It’s officially week two of summer for us… fingers crossed that it goes just as well as week one. Week two is when the euphoria of being home wears off and the kids start bickering and I start thinking how in the heck am I going to get anything done! It is easier now that they’re older and can occupy themselves but no matter how old they are, I still get the dreaded “I’m booorrred!” I’m so not looking forward to that.

Here’s to getting things crossed off the to-do list!

we’ve moved card

weve-moved

Not gonna lie… I love this card. I’m not sure if it’s the house stamp or the pop-up or the colors of the Echo Park papers… maybe it’s everything together. It turned out exactly how I wanted, I love it when that happens! I had a plan, I saw it in my head, I went to make it as envisioned, and it came out exactly as I imagined. That does not always happen so I’m pretty proud of myself with this one.

Card notes

On the left side of the card, I did not apply adhesive to a section of the patterned paper so a “calling card” with the new address could be slipped in. I added the row of houses from the stamp set underneath to give it a bit of decoration.

The Pull Tag die is very cool. It actually has an open space in the front of the tag but I decided to cover it up with the big house (it was a perfect fit!). I like that when the tag is pulled – revealing the inside message – that the roof sticks up beyond the tag. Awesome effect!

Supplies: houses4us stamp set (The Stamps of Life), Pull Tag Frame die (Sizzix), Scallop Sentiment border punch (Fiskars), kraft cardstock (Bazzill), speckled cream cardstock, patterned paper – Seeing Spots, Set the Table, The Neighborhood, Brown Floral, and Simple Stripes (Life is Good, Echo Park), Old Olive and Tempting Turquoise dye ink (Stampin’ Up), Chestnut Roan Chalk ink (ColorBox), Peeled Paint Distress Ink (Tim Holtz, Ranger), black pen 0.1 (American Crafts).

Create Scrapbooks

There will be a live show sometime next week… my first official show! I’ll be sure to post and tweet about it. There was originally a show planned for today but to make sure everything is in order and all the blog updates are complete, it was decided to push it back a bit. Hope to see you there!

Hope you have a creative weekend… I’ve got some layouts planned (fingers crossed!)!

Got Caffeine? card

got-caffeine-sol

I love anything coffee related. Any cute coffee type thing and I’m all about it. I even have a cookie jar that looks like a latté machine (thanks again Karen!).  With my love of coffee, how could I not love this adorable stamp set? I don’t think the photo does the card justice, the colors match much better in person. Hope you like it!

Supplies: coffee4two stamps (The Stamps of Life), kraft cardstock (Bazzill), speckled cream cardstock (I wish I knew because I’m almost out so if you’ve got a brand for me, please let me know*), graph paper (Scenic Route), brads (Stampin’ Up), Travel Ticking patterned paper (On Holiday, The Girls’ Paperie; Advantus).

*I’m serious about that speckled cream cardstock. If you know of something equivalent, I’d love to know. I’m almost out and have no idea where to look. I swear years (and years!) ago there was a Memories store in Houston and they’d sell it in packs. I’m pretty sure it’s gone now and I’m out of luck. (Okay, that’s enough complaining about paper).

Happy Tuesday! I’m looking forward to *not* leaving the house today…

GASC highlights

gasc2011

I had a great time with Karen at GASC in Arlington, Texas on Saturday. We left at 6am for our four and a half hour drive. It was so fun seeing all the product for sale in one place, people watching, and making new friends. I didn’t take very many pictures but I wanted to share a little recap of our trip. Note to self: don’t use crap phone camera to take pictures when you bring your actual (and much better!) camera with you.

Highlights

  • We spent some time at the Stamps of Life booth and got to meet Stephanie Barnard, her husband, and daughter. It was a beautiful booth! I’m in love with the stamps and they run a seriously first class operation. I can’t wait to dig in and use my new sets!
  • I picked up some beautiful new trims at a booth called Nicole Petersen Designsat was gorgeous!
  • At the It’s Cheaper Than Therapy of the booth, Karen fixed a sample of one of her own dies… always fun to watch her in action.
  • Saw an adorable sign in a booth from Arlington Camera.
  • Bought some fun ledger papers and buttons from the Fancy Pants Designs booth.
  • Got my hands on some more Echo Park papers (I’m really lovin’ Echo Park… I can’t say this enough!).
  • Went by the Technique Tuesday booth looking for Teri Anderson but never did run into her (she’s one of my favorite PaperCrafts Go To Gals).
  • There were a ton of different booths that had Karen’s pop-up dies so I got a picture of her displaying one… awesome!
  • Checked out tons of goodies at the Dollar Scrapbooking booth.
  • A bra fitting booth and a comfortable shoe type booth… two things that made me tilt my head and think hmmmmmm, okaaaaayyyy….
  • There might have been an incident while driving to GASC involving coffee and Karen having to buy a new t-shirt from Buc-ee’s (which she’s sportin’ in the pics above).

There was just so much stuff to see and so many booths… these really are just a few highlights. I did love the trims though, I’m kind of regretting I didn’t buy more. Live and learn I guess!

Other news

I’ve got some exciting news coming up to share. I cannot wait to spill! New, fun things on the horizon. A new opportunity arose and it’s right up my alley so I jumped at the chance. I’ll be sharing all the details soon! ;-)

Happy Monday! Have a great week!

best wishes card

I got the Friendly Flags stamp set a little while back but hadn’t had a chance to play with them. Every time I opened my stamp drawer they were calling for me. That being said, I might have gone a little flag crazy on this card… don’t care though, I was having fun!

best-wishes-flags

How did I get those flags to stick up like that? There are two tabs on the Zig Zag pop-up die that you can glue elements to. I cut two strips of white cardstock, folded them over and glued the halves together (so they’d be extra strong), and then adhered those pieces to the two tabs. After that, I just glued the flags onto the cardstock strips.

Supplies: kraft cardstock (Bazzill), Friendly Flags stamp set (Hero Arts), sentiments (Essential Messages, Hero Arts), Zig Zag pop-up die cut (Karen Burniston, Sizzix), border punch (Pinking Hearts, Stampin’ Up), True Blue “Merry” Paper (Fine and Dandy, My Mind’s Eye), Tree Tops paper (A Walk in the Park, Echo Park Paper), Picnic Fun (A Walk in the Park, Echo Park Paper), other patterned papers from my scrap drawer.

Other News

Tomorrow I’m headed to the Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington, Texas! I haven’t been in years. Karen and I decided to drive up for the day. I’m excited because not only will there be lots of shopping but I’m pretty sure we’ll be meeting Stephanie from The Stamps of Life. Her stamps are great and she makes the best videos show casing them. Should be a good time! Of course we’re leaving at 6am but whatever, it’ll be worth it.

Have a great weekend!

thank you cards with gift card holders

It’s the end of the school year (today is the last day for us… woot!) so I wanted to come up with a little something for my youngest sons two teachers and his bus driver. I decided to keep it simple and go with gift cards to Target. I wanted to make the cards extra special so I used my Gift Certificate Pop-Up Die. I love that this die takes giving a gift card to a whole new level.

thankyou giftcards 3

Since I was making three cards at the same time I kept the design and papers similar. This way I was making three unique cards but didn’t have to start from scratch each time. I love making cards in an assembly line process like this. Getting a lot done in a short amount of time brings on a huge feeling of accomplishment and productivity. I love it when I feel extra productive… it really helps keep me in a creative frame of mind.

Supplies: Flutter, Playground, and Mother Nature patterned papers (A Walk in the Park, Echo Park Paper Co.), Gift Certificate Holder w/ Phrase (Sizzix), Scallop Sentiment Border Punch (Fiskars), “thanks so much” sentiment (Made With Love, Hero Arts), “thank you” sentiment (Essential Messages, Hero Arts), white mat board (Sizzix), green, red, and white cardstock (Bazzill), white cardstock that was stamped on (Whisper White, Stampin’ Up), other stuff: flowers and pearl jewels.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy Thursday!
