yesterday, today, and tomorrow

My Creativity For Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

Rearranging! I’ve dismantled part of my scrapbook room to give my daughter my wooden shelves for her bedroom. I’m supposed to be getting new cabinets – it’s just taking (much!) longer than planned for them to arrive. When they were to come in, she was to get my shelves. Since it is taking longer than anticipated -and I hate having her wait – I went ahead and gave her the shelves and in the process, I dismantled part of my scrapbook room.

It’s been a task and a half. My room has been reconfigured and today we’re working on her room… and tomorrow too. It’s a bigger job than I thought. That’s okay though because her room is going to look awesome when we’re done.

Have a great weekend!

ready for March to be over

I’ve got to admit, I’m looking forward to March being over. I like the being creative everyday part but all this blogging is wearing me out! I pretty much went from blogging sporadically to blogging 26 days in a row. That being said… I’m ready to not blog… and do some serious blog clean up.

My Creativity For The Day

I got the natural blonde put back in my hair! I feel human again… love it!

(I hope that counts because it's all I've got in the creativity department today!)

Happy Thursday!

window shopping online

My Creativity For The Day

Window shopping online.

I love looking at product online… it helps give me a good idea of what I really like and will use. Over the years I’ve really learned what I will and won’t use for the most part– which is important. If I went to Archiver’s or Michael’s every time I wanted to window shop, I’d never leave empty handed! I guess that wouldn’t really be window shopping then would it… it would just be shopping.

best thing about window shopping online… it’s free!

dancing around...

My Creativity For The Day

Is cleaning creative in any way? What if I’m blaring music and dancing around like a lunatic? Does that count as creative? I hope so because that is so me today!

How can I not dance to Switch by Will Smith? I mean really...

Spring Break is over, my lovely children have gone back to school, and we’re back to the routine… I love the routine. I’m working on making a ridiculously long to-do list so I can focus on getting the house in order. Having the kids home and me having allergy/sinus problems really threw things off. Slowly but surely things are getting back to normal.

My Creativity For The Day

I’m updating my playlist for my iPod! I love having all my music in one place and then hitting random… just makes me happy. I’ve got an eclectic mix on there… here’s a sample (in no particular order):

  • The Beatles
  • Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtracks (all three)
  • Kid Rock
  • Johnny Cash
  • Queen
  • Taylor Swift
  • The Twilight Soundrack
  • Linkin Park
  • Pink
  • Bon Jovi
  • Daughtry
  • George Winston
  • Kelly Clarkson
  • Rod Stewart
  • Kenny Rogers

Here’s to a great week!

deleting photos

My Creativity For The Day

I don’t know how creative you’d consider this but it is productive – I’m deleting photos. I’ve got everything backed up so it’s not like I can’t get to them again if I need to. I’m deleting duplicates, photos that are blurry, heads cut off, fingers in the way, just plain bad, etc. I’m not deleting everything (let’s not get crazy!)just some! I don’t need 20 of the same shot, I can pick 5 or 6 of my favorites and delete the rest. I try to do that at least, some photos I just can’t let go… just drawn to them I guess… expressions, the memory of taking the photo, whatever. My main goal is to reduce the amount of photos I have on my computer just a bit… can’t save them all!

here’s to being productive!

fish tacos

My Creativity For The Day

Fish Tacos!!!! I’m seriously excited about making these. I’m making homemade Pico de Gallo too! It’s not paper and glue creative but I don’t care, I’ve been waiting for two weeks to make them so today, I’m all about Fish Tacos!

I make homemade Pico quite a bit, love the colors, the chopping, the whole process. My step-Dad gave me the recipe I use. I’ve tweaked it to my liking and wanted to share it.

Papa Bill’s Pico

6-8 Roma Tomatoes
1 medium white onion
2-4 jalapeño’s
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp. dried cilantro
2 tbsp. lemon juice
¼ tsp. salt

Chop tomatoes and onion. Cut off ends of jalapeño’s and cut in half, remove seeds as desired (the more seeds there are, the hotter it will be), chop. Place items in mixing bowl. Add minced garlic, cilantro, lemon juice, and salt. Mix together gently. Cover and chill for at least an hour before serving. Good for up to a week (if it lasts that long!).

Note: If the pico is too hot for your liking add more tomatoes and a little more lemon juice. You can use fresh cilantro in place of the dried, I just happen to prefer the dried when making Pico.

Happy Friday!

a card and scraps revisited

Today has been a much better day than yesterday. I’ve come to the conclusion that besides my ongoing saga with my sinuses, I must have allergy problems too. I took allergy medicine today and it made a world of difference. I don’t feel like I’m at 100% but I am functioning so that’s a heck of a lot better than yesterday.

My Creativity For The Day

Cards! I made a few and am sharing my favorite one.

I also wanted to follow up on my sorting scraps entry. The card I made was inspired by my scraps… little bits of paper that were left over from favorite patterns that I did not want to part with. I knew if I didn’t make something right away, they’d be lost (or tossed!) forever. Libby asked what I did with my scraps… I make cards with them, stamp on them, or use them on layouts. I use them like I would use any other piece of paper… I always (I mean ALWAYS!) look in my scrap bin before I cut into a new piece of paper. A year and a half ago when we moved into this house I pretty much just made myself start looking in my bin first because I realized they weren’t getting used at all. It's a habit now and looking there first has really worked for me… and helped to keep my scraps under control.

Have a great Thursday!

blah days and bloglines

Some days are just blah days. Today is one of those days. I’m not sure if I’m having sinus problems or allergies or if I just have a stupid cold but today is definitely a blah day. which leads me to…

My Creativity For The Day

I got nothing. Well, that’s not exactly true… I’m looking through my Blogline feeds at others who inspire me so that is something. It’s just not something that makes me feel very productive. That’s okay though because not every day is a cut paper and glue type of day. just going with the flow today...

Just in case you don’t know what Bloglines is, it’s a way to track blog updates and news feeds, so when someone posts something new, it updates in your Blogline feed so you don’t have to keep going back to the blog to see if it’s been updated. It’s just a little something to make your online adventures go more smoothly.

here’s to a better (and more productive) tomorrow!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

My Creativity For The Day

Something simple and fun! I printed out Shamrocks onto green cardstock, cut them out, added some painters tape to the back, and let my youngest Drew stick them wherever... I believe there is at least one on the ceiling in the family room. I used painters tape so they wouldn’t hurt the walls. I actually wanted Drew to help me cut them out but he was trying to make his own Shamrock out of a green pipe cleaner so I was on my own.

I found the Shamrock pattern here. I copy and pasted it into Word, resized it, and then copy and pasted again (and again!) to get multiple Shamrocks.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

sorting scraps

The kids are officially on Spring Break, which means everyone is home (minus the man, he's still got to work!)... and I am already wondering just how much I'll get done in the creating department. I'm just going to take it one step at a time. This week is pretty much going to be one big weekend of me not focusing!

My Creativity For The Day

I’m sorting through my scraps today. My rule of thumb is, if I think the drawer is to full, then it’s time to sort. I actually enjoy this task! It’s always fun to see what combinations end up next to one another in the drawer. Sometimes I find papers that work so well together, yet I never would have thought of the combination if they weren’t just tossed in there together and mixed around.

I’ll be throwing away bits of paper that are just to small to save or have been in the drawer forever. Some paper you know you just won’t use again. For now, I’m just going to keep them in one drawer like I have been… I’ve been contemplating sorting them by color but I’m just not there yet. This system works for me and I’m not ready to change it… not just yet.

it’s all about the green

My Creativity For The Day

Today’s creativity involves lots of green… green paint samples that is. There was even a field trip to Lowe’s and Home Depot involved. I’m always drawn to the color displays of paint samples… love all the different combinations. I tend to pick up a sample book or two (or more!) and today was no different. I’m trying to find the perfect shade of green for my scrapbook room… and I think I might have found it. yeah!

Just for fun

best wishes card

My Creativity For The Day

I made a card using a CPS sketch, #106. I used kraft cardstock (my favorite!), the patterned papers are from Cosmo Cricket, October Afternoon, and g.c.d. studios. I also got to use my new border punch (love it!) as well a my circle and tag punches… the squeeze punches are awesome by the way, very easy to use. Other stuff used: Rain Dots by Cloud 9 Design, a Heidi Grace stamp, and small alpha stamps.

The weekend is upon us… have a good one!

scrapbooking extra photos

My Creativity For The Day

Today I am scrapbooking extra photos… the type where you have a ton of photos from one event or fun moment, you’ve already created a few layouts but still have photos you want to share.

Here’s an example of what I’m doing: I have photos from Easter 2005 that I’ve already scrapped but I have a lot more photos that I thought were great and didn’t want to part with. I don’t need to do anything fancy because I’ve already done layouts about this event. I basically just add the extras to cardstock, add names and a date and I’m done. They get added in my albums behind the already scrapped layouts... those layouts hold all the major details so the new ones are just about sharing the photos. Occasionally I’ll do some outlining in black or add a sticker or two, but for the most part, these layouts are beyond simple… and I am perfectly fine with that! it feels good to get them in the books!

Happy Thursday!

tagged by Lisa

I was tagged by Lisa, who is the genius behind The Creativity Project I am participating in. I’m really getting into being creative every day, no matter what form that creativity comes in. It’s really helped me enjoy my scrapping process more and be more open to new, creative ideas. Thanks Lisa!

Here are the rules:
  1. Take a picture of yourself right now, no primping or preparing. Just snap the picture.
  2. Load onto your blog.
  3. Tag 3 people to play… remember if you are tagged on another blog we will all be heading to yours to see if you played along.
The three people I’m tagging are: Susan, Libby, and YOU. (that's right, YOU the visitor because I think everyone should get to play if they want to! just say I tagged you and join in!)

more later…

My Creativity For The Day

Today I am organizing and rearranging some of my supplies. This is an ongoing thing… and always will be. After I get my new cabinets, I’ll pretty much have to start over with the organizing but that’s okay… I love to *organize! Everything needs to have a home. When I sort through my scrapbooking supplies, I am reminded of what I have and get inspired by them all over again.

Now if the new cabinets would just get here, I’d be a happy camper (but since they’re free, I must be patient).

back to sorting through embellishments…

*seriously! it’s a compulsion, lol!

enjoying the day

My Creativity For The Day

I am enjoying the day (it’s currently 81 degrees!) and encourage Drew to have fun with what he was making. Somewhere in the middle of the stamping and the chalk I pulled out a wood project for him to paint… he was in his creative zone apparently! My claim to fame in the chalk arena was the rainbow by the way. best rainbow ever right? lol!

Happy Sunday!

the weekend

It’s the weekend. I’ll be honest, I have a terrible time doing anything remotely creative during the weekend. Everyone is home and my attention is very divided and I have a hard time focusing. I needed something easy to do today. Which leads me to….

My Creativity For The Day

I decided to reorganize some layouts and albums. A task I’ve been putting off for no real reason. I know, it doesn’t sound to exciting but creativity comes in all forms. I’m also adding scalloped edges to various pieces of scrap paper… my new border punch arrived yesterday (yeah!) and I’m already loving it. I might not have a lot of time on the weekends to make a start to finish paper project but that’s not going to stop me from playing with my new tool!

I think being inspired and feeling productive is being creative… as well as making a cake… or putting extra effort into wrapping a gift… and sorting photos… making a collage on the computer… learning something new… randomly punching just for fun… whatever... it’s all just a matter of perspective.

Here’s to being creative… in whatever way you see fit!

learning how to create brushes

My Creativity For The Day

I’m learning something new… at least trying to. I found this entry on the Studio Calico blogBrushes, Stamps, & PNGS ... Oh My!! The entry contains a link to a downloadable tutorial created by JennO. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not very good when it comes to anything digital… I can edit photos and add text, but that’s pretty much it. I love the idea of putting an image created by me on photos I share and projects I upload so the idea of learning how to create my own personal brushes really intrigued me.

I made two simple brushes to start with… because I wanted to make sure I could actually do it before I spent the time on drawing a detailed image. I just need to play with it some more and experiment. The tutorial is actually very easy to follow and broke down into simple steps… so if you’re clueless like me, then this will be perfect for you.

The first brush I made is just my name and the year plus a little heart... when I leave notes for the kids or the man I always add a heart (please excuse the picture of me being obnoxious... though it's pretty true to life!).

The second brush I created is a journaling block. I don't know if I'll ever do anything with it but it was cool to step outside my comfort zone and do something besides just my name.

Thank you JennO for such a great tutorial! :-)

Enjoy your weekend!

playing with Heidi Grace stamps

My Creativity For The Day

Today I pulled out some Heidi Grace stamps to play with. Here’s the sad thing, they were both still in the packaging… seriously! and I’ve had one of the sets for months! The majority of my purchases are planned but for some reason with stamps, I impulse buy. I see certain images and they just have to be mine… I think I’m afraid if I don’t get them right then and there, and then go back another day, they’ll be gone. Good thing it’s only certain types of images and not every type!

I stamped onto watercolor paper and then used watercolor pencils to give the images some life, and then blended it all in. I have no idea what I’m going to do with them… but that’s okay. I was just playing and creating and enjoying myself! I actually have a little bin for this type of stuff, little things I make that don’t have a destination. I am sure that at some point and time I’ll need to make a quick card and I’ll grab one of these little creations and wa-la! done!

Have a wonderful Thursday!

scallop border punch and color inspiration sent an offer I just couldn’t refuse yesterday – my want on sale. yes! I ordered the Scallop Sentiment Border Punch and I am beyond excited. I am aware that it’s just a tool but whatever, I know I’m going to love it and use the heck out of it. I wanted to share a fun thing does after you order: they send you an email with project ideas for the products you just purchased. I think that is a very cool feature. The last time I checked, the border punch was still available for $8.99… the email I got said only valid while supplies last so be sure to check it out!

My Creativity For The Day

(lime green with red, originally uploaded by brungrrl.)
I am inspired by the lime green and red combination… you can actually find this color combo in my kitchen. The love these two colors mixed together, they make me happy!

Here's to colors that inspire YOU!

sorting, sorting, and more sorting

My Creativity For The Day

I’m sorting through photos. I use the Library of Memories system and I’m actually emptying a storage album to make room for a new batch of photos that I just ordered. The album will become the home for all photos from 2009. Feels good to look back and see all the empty spaces. :-)

As a bonus, I’m sorting while watching The Bachelor online… gotta love a good train wreck! I wasn’t really surprised though thanks to Reality Steve.

back to sorting…

The Creativity Project and various scrappy stuff

various things… me rambling… because that’s what I do…

The Creativity Project with Lisa Day

The Creativity Project – I love this idea and I am so on board!

Lisa Day wrote, “If you read my blog you know that I scrapbook and I love being creative. But, you’ll also notice that I haven’t been posting much lately and that’s because I’m burnt out. It just hasn’t been the same for me. I thought I wanted to be on design teams and get published and that’s what I wanted scrapbooking to be in my life, but the more I chased it the less I loved this hobby. I decided to step back from it a little and really reflect on why I was chasing something I wasn’t even sure I wanted. I thought it would be fun and make me more creative, but instead it was stifling my creativity and taking away my time with my kids and adding stress I didn’t need (nor want).”

Her words but it completely sums up how I have felt and have been feeling. I love the idea of doing something creative everyday – heck, I’ve created classes about it – but this is different because it’s any creative thing. Thank you Lisa for such a great idea! Here’s to being creative every day.

Scrappy Stuff

  • On Saturday I woke up to a fun surprise, I won a set of Ali Edwards stamps on the Studio Calico blog. It’s a gorgeous kit club. They’ve got a great design team too. I’ll admit, I’m partial to Stephanie Howell’s work. I don’t know her but her layouts are amazing.
  • A new episode of FiskarsTV is up. The Birds of a Feather book is very cool. There’s an instruction sheet you can download too.
  • Fiskars Sketches - March Layout and Card Sketch.
  • The Scrap Review - a new blog for reviewing scrapbook products. Real product reviews by real scrappers. Today is their launch day.
  • Scallop Sentiment Boarder Punch – it’s my new want. I’m trying to find it locally but am not having any luck. I wonder how long it will take me to break down and just order it? I use the heck out of my Threading Water punch so I know I’ll love the plain scallops.

My Creativity For The Day

I’ll be editing photos. Not a huge task I know but I do love my photos and going through them and editing them always makes me happy.

Have a great March!
